If you’re from the Gold Coast like us, you would be familiar with the old façade of the Blue Heron Motel located on the Gold Coast Highway in Mermaid Beach. It’s been around for many moons and one of those places that you always remember being a local.

Earlier this year, we were approached by the family behind the Blue Heron Motel, to supply wallpaper for the exterior of their building which they saw on our website. The new owners – Andreas and Karl – who purchased the motel in late 2018, took on the task to renovate and transform the nostalgic property giving it a clean, modern look and aimed to accentuate its comfortable environment.

One of their key focuses was to make the space unique and this is why they came to us for outdoor wallpaper, to achieve something that was eye-catching and matched their theme. You know we love wallpapering in the outdoors, so it was very exciting project to work on and we are delighted with how it turned out.

The beautiful design ‘Strelitzia Tropical’ by textile and surface designer, Patricia Braune was chosen from a display in our showroom, and we customised the colour and the scale of the image for the project, which truly brought their walls to life. This design was chosen based on their interior design concept and was a perfect match to transform the façade of the building.

Keith Bryant installed the wallpaper and did a brilliant job! He has been working in the industry for over 25 years and we could not recommend him enough. The team also worked with our recommended designer, Liliana Madigan from Designing Spaces, who worked closely with the owners to renovate the motel from top to bottom.

Easy to see as you’re driving past or taking a stroll to the beach, the wallpaper has completely transformed the space and caught the attention of many locals and guests, saying it looks amazing and unique – we couldn’t agree more!

At Affordable Decorators, we use a heavily textured polyester fabric backed substrate for our outdoor wallpaper, that makes it very durable, and is available in hundreds of different designs and colourways. This outdoor wallpaper has been tried and tested by us and has endured the Gold Coast weather conditions for many years on the exterior of our showroom.
