It’s Michele here. Like most of you, I wanted to start the year off with a list of good intentions and achievable goals. But as 2020 was upon us, it all seemed so insignificant compared to what’s going on in our country and the instability in the world; especially with global climate change.
I’m not sure where to start, but I’m sure we can all start somewhere, one step at a time. My mother always taught me that we can all make a difference in whatever we believe, no matter how big or small, so this year I’m doing just that and starting with these small steps.
At Affordable Decorators, we will be doing our bit to help make a difference. This year, we will be stocking and selling the Farmer Cookbook in our showroom for $30 each, with all proceeds being donated to the RSPCA Bushfire Appeal. This is a beautifully crafted cookbook featuring a collective of recipes and real-life stories from farmers in the heart of rural Australia themselves. A big thank you to Toad and Mandy, previously on House Rules, for sharing this with us and spreading the word on how we can so simply make a difference.
Another way we can also support our fellow Australians is by buying from @spendwiththem – this is an incredible new initiative by Turia Pitt, that has been established in the form of an Instagram account showcasing the abundance of small businesses in bushfire-impacted communities and how we can spend our money at places that need it the most. The purpose of this is to help rebuild towns and businesses affected by the fires – so thank you Turia Pitt for creating and sharing this, you are one amazing human!
We will also continue to support our local organisation, Orange Sky, that provides a platform for the homeless and helps to reconnect them with everyday Australians by operating across 22 different locations in Australia. We will continue to donate bags for this cause, and are so grateful for anything that anyone can contribute. We’re always looking for toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, first aid kits, containers and tampons. Anyone is welcome to contribute and support this great cause – so please do drop any of these amenities into our showroom at 36 Ashmore Road, Bundall.
To update you on what’s happening here at Affordable Decorators, we have some exciting projects in the pipeline for 2020 and lots of showroom reveals that we can’t wait to show you. We will also be completing our dedicated boutique window treatments room, so watch this space.
In trends and decorating, expect to see a lot of the colour blue pop up this year with the Pantone colour of the year being, Classic Blue 19-4052. A shade reminiscent of the night sky, this is a colour that anticipates what’s going to happen next.
Interestingly, this colour was chosen by the Pantone Colour Institute as it was said to recognise feelings of instability gripping the world today. Classic Blue was the choice as it offered reassurance, confidence and connection that people may be searching for in an uncertain global climate.
With every good intention, we hope 2020 turns out to be a good year for all and positively impacts all those who need it most and our beautiful earth!
Until next time,
Michele & the Affordable Decorators team xx
